i was saddened to see the space shuttle taking off for its final mission yesterday. below is an image from the cover of a 1978 russian childrens book featured on the blog dreams of space. in the good old days there seemed to be so much optimism and excitement about space exploration which has now dissipated. lets hope the brian cox effect will generate some more funding. (i'm referring to his enthusiasm for astronomy, not his glorious barnet or mastery on the keys)
